January 2018 News

January 23, 2018

In 2017, Kaleidoscope (KCF) began to realize its greater potential and intention in advancing vulnerable children and communities worldwide with sustainable education, life skills and fresh water after 14 years of dutiful intention and consistent ground-work .

That sustainability, refined programming and expanded outreach now serves more than 800 children and their families in Cambodia, India and Guatemala.

In early  2017, KCF  implemented new education initiatives in Bodhgaya and Lakhanpur, India, some of the country's most impoverished and destitute areas. An after-school program serving 90 children in Bodhgaya and a grass roots beginning school in the village of Lakhanpur serving 30 children in the Behar region has begun. This March, three of our KCF board members will travel to these areas to craft systems and build relationships with families and locals to ensure long term sustainability towards educating their children.

In Cambodia, our two campuses serve over 600 children with free classes in English, math, life-skills, fine arts and IT technology. We’ve committed to raising the bar in our classroom experience, to keep pace with industry and educational needs, and have hired an academic advisor whose current projects include maximizing our curriculum and improving the skills of our teachers.

Our work in Guatemala is an established alliance with Forging my Tomorrow.  With their support we were able to travel to four remote villages and reward 100 families with fresh water filter systems coupled with extensive instructions on optimal use. These families have shown commitment in rising above illiteracy by enrolling both their children and themselves in local community schools. Access to clean water is fundamental to their health and their ability to continue their commitment to self-improvement, yet a 9 kilometer (that’s 5 miles!) walk for many was required to reach a fresh water source.  By February of this year we will be funding a complete computer lab for school children in the Panajachel region. This lab will provide them a free and safe haven to complete their school work.

In 2018, we have created an intention to bring LASTING change to the lives of the children and families we serve by ensuring that all of our service projects have sustainability plans at their core, with a renewed focus on gathering evidence of impact of each of our programs.

Consider this:

  • Over the past four decades, the global increase in women’s education has prevented more than 4 million child deaths.

  • Some 171 million people could be lifted out of poverty – reducing the global rate by 12% - if all students in low-income countries acquired basic reading skills.

  • Getting all children into basic education, while raising learning standards, could boost growth by 2% annually in low-income countries.

We are committed to the over 800 children and their families that we currently serve and need your support to enable even greater changes in the future.

Infinite blessings to you for your willingness to work in tandem with us in such a necessary way.

In gratitude –
